Registration Policy
Graduate Student Registration Policy
The Economics Graduate Studies Office asks that registration requests for Non-economics courses, Consortium courses, Dissertation proposal credits (ECON 998), and Dissertation research credits (ECON 999) be made be made at least three to five weeks before the start of a given term to allow staff sufficient time for processing. Details regarding each of these types of requests, including the required information and the required email for submitting information, can be found through the following links from the department website:
Non-economics courses
Consortium courses
Directed Reading and Research
Dissertation Proposal Credits (998)
Dissertation Research Credits (999)
Requests submitted close to the start of term may be delayed due to the high volume of inquiries received at that time. The staff cannot guarantee that processing can be completed by the term start. Please follow the guidelines posted on the department website (through the links above). It is the responsibility of students to carefully read the department website and follow the specific instructions.
The only exception to this policy is for students who are waiting on field exam results to determine if they are able to register for ECON 998 (Dissertation Proposal credits). Students in this situation should already be prepared to submit the request for 998 as described above, including an email from their dissertation advisor approving 998 enrollment, and a program of study assuming they will enroll in 998. This program of study should include the intended semesters for the dissertation proposal, and for the dissertation defense and graduation.
Any questions should be directed to econgrad@gmu.edu.
