Philanthropic organizations are often mired in bureaucracy that can make the process of applying for funding lengthy and tedious. Tyler Cowen, an economist at George Mason University, is pioneering a different approach.

Erte Xiao of Monash University, has been named a 2024 Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA). An elected body of leading researchers and professionals in the social sciences, ASSA honored Xiao as an economics expert and social science leader in her field.

University Distinguished Professor Peter Boettke will receive the Public Choice Society's highest academic honor, the James M. Buchanan Distinguished Fellow Award, at their annual conference in March 2025. 

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is proud to honor Hassan Shahidi, BA International Studies '81, MA Economics '83, with the 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award in Economics. Shahidi is the president and chief executive officer of Flight Safety Foundation, an international and independent nonprofit organization with a singular mission to enhance global aviation safety through research, standards, education, and advocacy.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is proud to honor Torey Carter-Conneen, BA Economics '06, with the 2023 CHSS Alumni Service Award to Community. Carter-Conneen serves as the chief executive officer of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the 16,000-member professional association that represents landscape architects in the United States.
