
University Distinguished Professor, Peter Boettke, will receive the Public Choice Society's highest academic honor, the James M. Buchanan Distinguished Fellow Award at their annual conference in March 2025.
Named for George Mason Economics Professor Emeritus and Nobel Laureate, James Buchanan, the Society selects an honoree "to recognize a member whose efforts have made significant contributions over a sustained number of years to the Society and/or to public choice scholarship".
Only the second recipient of this esteemed award, Dr. Boettke was selected for his many contributions as shared in the Society's conference announcement:
Professor Boettke is a long-time contributor to public choice scholarship and has mentored scores of students to study the workings of collective action. He is University Professor of Economics and Director of the Mercatus Center's F. A. Hayek Program for Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at George Mason University. His work is rooted in the market process approach of the Austrian school, and utilizes the work of Past Presidents Elinor Ostrom and James Buchanan among others. He is an award-winning teacher and co-author of the successful textbook, The Economic Way of Thinking. He is past president of the Southern Economic Association and the Mont Pelerin Society, and Associate Editor at Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization.
Dr. Boettke will be honored at the Society's conference in Saint Louis, MO, where he will deliver a plenary address.
