Section Information for Fall 2017

Course Description:  The field of economics is becoming increasingly computational.  This means if you want to be competitive in the job market you must learn how to think in terms of algorithms and program algorithms on computers.  In this course, you will learn three software technologies.  First, you will learn how to program a computer using the general-purpose computer language called Python.  Second, you will learn how to program a web page using HTML5 and CSS.  Third, you will learn how to program statistics and do data analysis in R.  This course assumes that you have no previous programming experience.

By the end of this course you will know enough programming to be able to think about and do economic computations.  You will also be able to learn more about Python, Web Programming, and R on your own.  If you are an undergraduate this course contains the material prerequisites for our one-semester senior Experimental Economics Research Experience for Undergraduates, better known as E2REU.  If you are a graduate student the materials covered in this class are a prerequisite for our graduate level class Computational Experimental Economics.
