Philosophy

Many of the great classical economists, such as Adam Smith, thought of themselves as moral philosophers. And the George Mason Department of Economics prides itself on providing its majors with the philosophical dimensions of the study of economics, in addition to economic analysis. A minor in philosophy can extend your understanding of these philosophical dimensions, with courses in topics such as business ethics, ethics and economics, environmental ethics, Karl Marx's social and political thought, and classical, modern or contemporary western political theory. This combination of economic and philosophical study will distinguish your resume, show that you have challenged yourself intellectually, and make you a strong candidate for employment in economics research and policy, or for further graduate study in economics.
