Mason Professors Compare ‘Average’ Economic Opinions

It’s a discussion that promises to be anything but “average.”

In a cerebral battle of heavyweight economic theorists, George Mason University professor Steven Pearlstein bumps ideas against those of Mason colleague and best-selling author Tyler Cowen in a wide-ranging conversation regarding Cowen’s new book, “Average Is Over: Powering America Beyond the Age of Stagnation” (Dutton). The session takes place Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at George’s Restaurant in the Johnson Center on George Mason’s Fairfax Campus. The event is free and open to the Mason community.

Pearlstein, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 2008 for his columns on economics in the Washington Post, is the Robinson Professor of Political and International Affairs at Mason.

Economics professor Cowen is chairman and general director of the Mercatus Center at Mason and co-founder of Marginal Revolution, a global economics blog, and Marginal Revolution University, an online learning site for economics. His last book, “An Economist Gets Lunch,” builds on his popular regional dining guide and uses economic theory with finding the best food.
