James Buchanan and Vernon Smith Seminar

For Whom the Bell Curve Tolls.  The Role of Genetics in Social Life, England, 1600-2024

The George Mason Department of Economics invites the university community to join us for the James Buchanan and Vernon Smith Seminar presented by Dr. Gregory Clark, Danish National Research Council professor of economics at the University of Southern Denmark.

This seminar series is designed to appeal to a broad audience and is named to honor the Department's two Nobel Laureates and to recognize scholars who have made outstanding contributions to economics.

Gregory Clark is an economic historian who has researched such topics as the origins of the Industrial Revolution and the sources of the great disparities in economic performance across societies.  In recent years he has been investigating the sources of social success and the possibilities of government action to change social outcomes using a large-scale genealogy of 443,000 English people spanning the years 1600 to 2024.
