Associate Economics Professor Mark Koyama will be participating in a panel discussion sponsored by the Project on Democracy and Capitalism at the Miller Center of the University of Virginia.

Their topic:  “Global Capitalism and How the World Became Rich.”

The aim of the discussion is to explore the role of capitalist institutions in the global wealth boom, their effect on democratic systems, and the sustainability of democratic capitalism across the world.  The event aims to stimulate discussion about issues associated with global economic growth and its relevance for our reflections on democracy and capitalism.

The panel will feature Dr. Koyama and Jared Rubin (authors of the recently published book How the World Became Rich:  The Historical Origins of Economic Growth), and Fahad Bishara and Jennifer Bair from UVA.
