2022 Mason 3MT® Competition Winners: Economics doctoral student Aisha Yusuf

2022 Mason 3MT® Competition Winners: Economics doctoral student Aisha Yusuf

Aisha Yusuf, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Economics, won second place in George Mason University's annual 3MT® academic competition.  3MT® stands for the Three Minute Thesis and gives participants the opportunity to sharpen their communication skills.

Aisha won with her presentation on Ethnic Identity and the Prevalence of Female Genital Mutilation.

As described on the George Mason Provost's 3MT® webpage

3MT® is a research communication competition where PhD students present their doctoral research to a non-specialist audience using only one single visual aid—all in three minutes. This exercise encourages graduate students to think about their research from an outsider’s perspective, hones their presentation skills, and provides a forum for a cross-disciplinary exchange of exciting ideas and information.

Two rounds of competition were held with an elimination round on March 4, and the top 10 finalists presented at the Mason Graduate Interdisciplinary Conference on April 8.
