Section Information for Fall 2013
The goals of this course are twofold. The first goal is to acquaint students with the methods that market process economists use to evaluate and critique the efficacy and efficiency of public policies. As such, it is a course in applied microeconomics and is intended to provide an overview of several important tools for policy analysis. The second goal is to promote the writing, exposition, and communication skills needed to create a compelling brief for or against a particular economic policy. In addition to being graded on class participation, students will be graded on multiple presentations and drafts of a policy essay that offers a cogent economic analysis of an important policy topic. Students taking this course are expected to have 18 hours of graduate coursework and will have taken either "Entrepreneurship and the Market Process" or "Regulation and the Market Process." The instructor is willing to waive these requirements on a case-by-case basis if students have taken other coursework that will prepare them for the course.ECON 695 001 enrollment is controlled.
