Emily Jane Perry

Emily Jane Perry (best known as “Jane”) joined the administrative staff of the Center for Study of Public Choice (CSPC) at Mason’s Department of Economics in December 2006.

A native of Montgomery County, Maryland, Perry received a BA in history from Frostburg State College in 1974 and a master’s in library science from the University of Maryland in 1975. Prior to finally returning to an academic setting, Perry gained diverse work experience as a federal librarian, a loan analyst for the Student Loan Marketing Association, and a membership administrator at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). While at ASCE, Perry spent time in the publications department as an editorial assistant, helping manage 30 professional journals.

Perry says her diverse resume gave her just the experience she needed to contribute to the CSPC. As a member of the administrative team, she provides resident faculty support and shares responsibilities for the daily administrative operations and management of Carow Hall. She enjoys welcoming faculty, students, visiting scholars, and other visitors to Carow Hall daily with graciousness and warmth (and soft peppermints!). During the spring and fall semesters, Perry serves as the staff administrative and logistical coordinator for each of the weekly Public Choice Seminar Series presentations, including the after-event receptions.

Perry’s proofreading skills have been in demand on numerous projects throughout the years in a variety of capacities, including for the CSPC annual report as well as for a number of professional journal articles authored by center faculty. She enjoys helping with proofreading/editing requests and is continually impressed by the outstanding research and writing abilities so amply represented within the economics department.

In addition to greatly enjoying her work with faculty and staff colleagues, Perry loves getting to know some of the students who come to Carow Hall--cheering their academic and professional successes. Some of the highlights of her career here have been working with her talented administrative team colleagues, Lisa Hill-Corley and Jo Ann Burgess, on various projects and events, including the highly popular annual outreach conferences and, in 2007, the History of Economics Society 34th Annual Meeting.

Perry and her husband of 35 years, Bill, live in Herndon, Virginia. They have one son, Rodger, who is the A/V and multimedia coordinator at Cleveland Community College in Shelby, North Carolina. Perry is active as a local community volunteer and serves as a trained Stephen Minister/Leader and substitute organist at her church. She loves being a part of the vibrant academic community here at Mason and, in particular, being able to contribute to the achievements of the outstanding economics department.
