ECON 895 Causal Methods Hist Pol Econ provides an overview of important methodological empirical tools in economics and political science and their applications in historical political economy.  Specifically, we will revisit popular econometric techniques such as instrumental variable analysis, difference-in-differences, and regression discontinuity design and discuss how practitioners use these tools when dealing with historical questions and historical data.   The class combines lectures, student discussions, and presentations with the goal of producing a research paper by the end of the semester.
