Section Information for Spring 2020

Airlines are a business but consumers often don't understand how airlines decide things like pricing, flights schedules, frequent flier programs, alliances, and more. In this unique and innovative class, learn the inside details of how airlines really work with the economics basis for these decisions. The class is highly applied, and includes problem sets, case studies, active classroom sessions, and guest speakers to keep it interesting and motivating. Content is newly updated so that the class will discuss current issues like the grounding of the 737MAX and the economics impacts of this, effect of tariffs on aircraft manufacturers, and more. Plus, you'll learn the history of US airlines and how we ended up with a structure today where just four airlines fly 80% of all the customers! Consider this class as an interesting elective for your Economics, Business, Data Science, or Engineering degree!
